A BattleTech weblog

About

The ScrapYard Armory is a weblog centered around Battletech, a miniature war game produced by Catalyst Game Labs.

I have been a gamer for as long as I can remember.  I still remember the first time I picked up a 3rd Edition Battletech boxset and spent an afternoon smashing ‘Mechs to pieces.

It’s been a long road from there.  Since that first game, I spent a plethora of  time, energy, and money collecting sourcebooks and technical readouts just to read them over and over until the covers damn near wore off!  Aside from reading all of the great fiction in those books, I didn’t actually play the game for almost a decade.

During that time, I’ve played lots of games.  Magic the Gathering, Deadlands: Doomtown, Legend of the Five Rings, Advanced Squad Leader, StarFleet Battles, Lord of the Rings CCG, and plenty of other non-collectible card and board games.

When MageKnight debuted, I was drawn back into the miniatures world. I played for fun.  I played for competition.  The only break I took was to play the Mechwarrior: Dark Age game until the release of Fire for Effect.  I went back to MageKnight until it’s untimely demise.

Quite suddenly a gaming orphan, I wandered.  I looked at Warmachine, Warhammer 40K, and others but none captured my enthusiasm for one reason or another.  I went back to my Battletech collection, dusted off the many volumes and gave them another read.  Now a few years older and wiser, I came to the decision that Battletech was the game I had always wanted to play, and it was right under my nose the entire time.

I do more than just read the fiction now.  I am an avid player and love playing the game whether its online via MegaMek or in person at a local convention.

Since the beginning of 2008, I’ve been filling this weblog with news and commentary as well as unofficial content such as scenarios and after action reports.  I love this game and want to make it better.

Welcome to the ScrapYard Armory.
