I would say that it is a draw. Both sides lost the same amount of Mechs and ironicly the same class types. If I were the general of the Davions, I would have turned the tide from the begining and used the city as cover, utilize my long range weapons to strike at the first lance regiments to come near, then follow up with covering fire and flanking tactics. I'd say the major loss here was that neither side seemed to utilize T&T(Terain and Tactics). Even though the Lyrans did a decent assault a good portion of Davions escaped. On the other hand though, the Davions lost a few good men they could have saved by using T&T and a little Hold The Line strategies.

The Lyons on the other hand could have spread their two Lance units into a complete surrounding manuever while stepping back just a bit to avoid Davion long range weapons. If the Lyrans were to stay out of range and Surround the Davions then they could have turn by turn close in and anihilate the Davions. If I were commanding the Lyran forces I would first surround from affar to avoid long range weapons, then turn by turn close in and demolish the cities buildings so that the Davions wouldn't be able to hide behind them and if I can get a few skyscrapers to fall down sideways I could cause good damage. After that i'd just push foreward bit by bit to avoid overheating and just lay down as much firepower as I can on the Davions.

Now aside from what could have been done, I'd say objective wise the Davions won because most of their Mechs escape, but as for losses I wouldn't give the Davions any mission completeion bonuses. I'd give that amount of points to the Lyrans for taking out the Davions Mechs.

@ Pukakao,

I agree with Brian. While XL engine's allow mechs to perform in terms of speed and firepower at a significantly higher rate, it also makes them much more vulnurable to destruction. Basically the loss of any torso now kills the mech as oppossed to just the CT, and it is slightly easier to get 3 engine hits in other ways too. That being said if you play in a campaign, XL engines and CASE mean it is easier to take the mech out of the game, but easier to preserve the mech to be repaired and brought back and for the Mechwarrior to live.

Hey Pukako,

Thanks for the comment and welcome back to the game! Another objective observer in favor of the Davions. Not looking good for the poor Lyrans!

XL engines provide extra tonnage for more weapons and armor but with a critical vulnerability. XL engines take up extra criticals in both side torsos. A Mech is destroyed by ANY three engine hits. That means the poor Inner Sphere 'Mech Jockeys will find their tools of the trade belly up after any torso location is destroyed.

There is just more opportunities to kill the 'Mech without having to core all the way through the center torso as is the case for 3025 'Mechs.

Love these game reports! I've just got back into (3025) Battlemech after almost 15 years away, and am loving the feel and elegance of the game.

In this match, I agree with BullLifter - as losses were about even, Davion must have gained the upper hand as they accomplished their objective in part - better than Steiner (Lyrans, if you must) stopped them doing so.

One quick query - in my recent games, about 1/2 the kills in 3025 are from head shots, with CT/Engine destruction and ammo explosions about 1/4 each. How much does having XL Engines increase the kill rate?

I think the Davions came away with this one. Fairly even on losses: 5 lightly damaged mechs escape the trap, and the Lyrans hold the field with 4 lightly damaged mechs and a neutered Hunchback.

Great AAR.

I wish Los Angeles had better Demo agent coverage.

Though I am biased I do think we did win as the Davions, we did get over a lance off the board, and almost all of that lance was unscathed. That being said it was a marginal victory at best as we did lose some of our biggest mechs.

Never a better time to get back into the game than now. Lots of amazing stuff happening.

The Demo agents do a great job supporting the game. Check out who may be in your area, you may be surprised to find one closer than you think!

I love these AARs, keep up the great writing! I haven't played a non-PC game of Battletech since probably junior high in the late '80s, and that was with the hex maps and the cardboard Mech cutouts that came in the CityTech box. I have kept up on all the fiction and new tech however, which is something. Reading all these gets me itching to try and brush up and find a game.
